Popular file-sharing website Rapidshare may be forced to shutdown after losing a copyright infringement case against the German music industry. As a result, Rapidshare will now have to prevent illegal uploads to their servers instead of using traditional post-clean up methods. Preventing illegal uploads is a difficult, if not impossible, task that may just end up forcing Rapishare to shutdown altogether.
Rapidshare calls itself “1-Click Webhosting” and boasts “210 Gigabit/s of Internet connectivity and 4.5 Petabytes of storage,” and it is one of the most popular online channels through which porn is pirated. Users can upload huge files like DVD rips and zipped up picture galleries to Rapidshare and allow others to enjoy fast download speeds. There are extremely active forums like Lawina Board and PornWz that are dedicated to posting Rapidshare links to high-quality, full-length porn videos.
