As of now, YouPorn is the most popular free porn site on the internet. The concept is a Youtube clone serving porn videos. It’s as simple as that, and it has managed to redefine the age of “Porn 2.0″ as it leaves behind the obsolete TGPs and MGPs of the past.

Just like Youtube, YouPorn collects its content from users. From what we’ve seen, though, this upload feature does not work as it should. We uploaded a video using the YouPorn interface, and after waiting 24 hours later the video the video still failed to show up in the index. It seems that either a) the moderators at YouPorn pre-screen all uploaded videos before they make it onto the pages or b) the upload page is just a guise to make it seem like user-contributed content. The latter does make sense because amateur porn is currently a popular trend and the “upload” page gives YouPorn’s amateur content some credibility. When in reality these videos could be ripped off of other video portals or affiliate programs.

According to Portfolio.com, the owner of YouPorn tried to sell the website to the adult industry giant Vivid Entertainment. But he failed to convince the CEO of Vivid that the price was right.

Although YouPorn gets millions of worldwide visitors seeking free porn videos each day, the revenue model may not be strong enough to support the monstrous daily bandwidth costs of providing unlimited streaming video. Currently, YouPorn displays adult contextual ads from Etology such as dating ads, text ads and image ads. Also, on individual video pages there are affiliate ads from various pay sites. But how well do these affiliate offers convert when the visitor has access to all the free porn he or she desires on YouPorn?

Sites like YouPorn are the big thing right now. YouPorn started out as a clone of not only YouTube but also another competing adult video portal PornoTube, but it has overtaken the latter in popularity. Now there are dozens of YouPorn clones springing up on the web every day. The concept is easily duplicated, which is a sure sign of a passing fad.

YouPorn is currently a formidable contender in the adult industry but I don’t believe it will hold its place for long. These videos portals will start to niche out and another web application concept that adds more value to the viewers will overtake YouPorn soon enough.
